HIP runs Bowelscan campaign
Health Information Pharmacy has joined forces with Rotary Bowelscan in June to promote the Bowelscan program. The project is not only an awareness raising campaign for bowel cancer but also a scheme where people can get a simple test done to check for blood in the stool, which may indicate bowel cancer (although there may be blood present for other reasons).
Australia has the world’s highest incidence of bowel cancer - 1 in 21 people will suffer from it, men and women alike. The risk generally begins at age 40 and then doubles every 5 years until age 60. It is strongly recommended that everyone over the age of 40 has a Bowelscan test every year.
As part of the Bowelscan campaign, the cost of the test (which includes the kit and notification of results) is limited to $8. For more information on Bowelscan go to www.bowelscan.org.au or visit your nearest HIP pharmacy this month.
