More than a satisfied customer - Kaye’s story

As well as Olympic gold medallist Steven Bradbury, delegates at the HIP group conference in Melbourne also heard from Kaye Cheng, a customer at HIP Wyndham in Werribee VIC.
Kaye’s story really brought home how a team of pharmacists with the right approach can make a real and lasting difference in people’s lives. Kaye started out by explaining how she had been a customer at the pharmacy for ten years before it became a Health Information Pharmacy.
When the store changed hands she noticed an immediate difference in the helpfulness of the pharmacy team, who spent time explaining all about the medications she was being prescribed, including important details such as what to do if she forgot to take the medication and possible side effects.

That helpfulness extended to the pharmacist in charge, Kevin Tan, suggesting that giving up smoking would definitely help her condition and advising her to visit her GP for a prescription to a quit smoking program. Kaye followed his advice and - when she went back to the pharmacy with the script - Kevin again explained everything about the program to her and offered his support if she felt tempted to smoke again during the program. Three weeks later Kaye stopped a 40-year habit and has not had a cigarette since.
She has also enrolled on the HIP Healthy Heart program, which involves her coming into the pharmacy for a monthly check-up, and is part of a research program being run in conjunction with Monash University for people with heart problems.
Even though Kevin is the pharmacist in charge at HIP Wyndham, Kaye was at pains to point out that it was not just Kevin, but the entire team at the pharmacy that make the difference for her and her family.
