Chemconsult® findings reported in the West Australian
In December the West Australian reported on the initial findings of Chemconsult® online, particularly concerning the high number of age/weight dosage errors.
A WA Guild spokesperson interviewed by the journalist expressed surprise at the high error level, saying she found them ‘hard to believe’ and stating that the role of the pharmacist was to double check prescription information to make sure the right drug was prescribed at the right dose.
We can’t disagree on either count, however the figures speak for themselves and even HIP CEO Ken Lee expressed his surprise when he saw the error rates. As the most recent statistics from Chemconsult® show, the figures have decreased slightly, but the age/weight dosage error rate remains high at 20.68%.
