Kathleen’s Story
As a former registered nurse and nurse educator Kathleen Trainor knows a thing or two about health and medicine. Now 80 years old, she has been a customer of HIP Castle Hill ever since she moved to the North-West Sydney suburb 10 years ago.
Last year she had some medical issues - now resolved - that meant she had to visit the pharmacy on a very regular basis to pick up a number of prescription medicines. She also describes herself during this period as being ‘emotional and fragile’. So she was very reliant on the team at HIP Castle Hill helping her to understand the medicines she was taking and advising her of how to take them and what possible side effects to look for.
Kathleen explains:
“The staff at the pharmacy always take the time to find out if I am familiar with a particular medicine and explain everything I need to know about it when they fill out the prescription. One day they checked the prescription and found it was inappropriate, given the drugs I was taking at the time.
I feel I know Eugene and Lee (the pharmacist managers at the pharmacy) very well, but all the staff are excellent - you don’t feel like you’re being treated as a second class citizen just because you’re over 40!”
As in all HIP pharmacies, new scripts are checked using the Chemconsult® medication consultation program exclusive to the group, and this would have picked up the issue Kathleen described.
